1400 Murphy Avenue – North & South Buildings

Project Overview

Located just south of downtown Atlanta with immediate access to Interstates 20, 75, and 85, the 1400 Murphy Avenue development consists of two Class A industrial facilities totaling approximately 790,500 square feet. The project required exterior architectural systems that complemented the buildings' modern industrial design while meeting demanding construction schedules and performance requirements.

PCG was selected to provide the design, engineering, fabrication, and installation of multiple exterior architectural systems, including dock canopies and custom cantilevered aluminum entrance canopies. Through a coordinated approach to fabrication and field installation, the project was completed on schedule while delivering high-quality architectural elements that enhance both functionality and the visual identity of the development.

Design & Fabrication Approach

To support the project's accelerated construction schedule, PCG implemented a strategic prefabrication process that maximized shop fabrication before materials arrived on site. Structural assemblies and architectural components were fabricated under controlled manufacturing conditions, reducing field labor while maintaining stringent quality standards.

Limited field adjustments were incorporated only where required to accommodate final building conditions, ensuring precise alignment and seamless integration with the completed structures.

This hybrid fabrication strategy provided several key benefits:

  • Accelerated installation with minimal on-site assembly
  • Enhanced quality control through precision shop fabrication
  • Reduced field coordination and installation risk
  • Accurate integration with the building envelope and architectural detailing

By combining advanced manufacturing capabilities with efficient field execution, PCG delivered architectural systems that satisfied both the project's aesthetic objectives and demanding construction timeline.

Installation & Site Coordination

Successful execution required careful planning and coordination within an active construction environment. PCG worked closely with the general contractor and project team to sequence installations efficiently while maintaining safe access throughout the site.

Installation equipment included:

  • Boom lifts for placement of the cantilevered aluminum entrance canopies
  • Scissor lifts for efficient installation of dock canopies throughout the truck courts

Detailed logistical planning enabled each canopy system to be installed safely, efficiently, and without disrupting adjacent construction activities, allowing the overall project schedule to remain on track.

Project Outcome

The completed canopy systems contribute both functional performance and architectural character to the development. The dock canopies provide durable, long-term weather protection for loading operations, while the cantilevered entrance canopies establish a distinctive arrival experience and reinforce the contemporary architectural language of the buildings.
