Working closely with the project team at Brasfield and Gorrie as well as the designers at Perkins & Will, PCG overcame numerous challenges to create a truly one-of-a-kind aluminum fin design for the new Ronald McDonald House building on North Druid Hills Rd in Atlanta.

Fabrication Strategy
Most of our aluminum members come in maximum lengths of 24’ and these fins created a special challenge being ~25’+/-. PCGs welding fabrication team rose to the challenge and took extra care to expertly splice 2pcs of the 6x8 tube together and grind/sand the joint smooth. Besides the material challenge, these large pieces required a lull forlift coupled with a boom-lift onside to set them in place.
The attachment of these fins is also unique. The upper attachment into the concrete slab at the building soffit required X-Ray scanning of the slab to ensure attachment did not occur at the wrong structural locations. The lower connection was also coordinated with the concrete footings which are several feet below grade. All the while, the grade of the building was increasing from one end to the other. This meant exact field dimensions were needed from the PCG field team and each of the 9 fins is a different height.
