Archer Aviation

Project Overview

Evans General Contractors built a new high-production facility for Archer Aviation, an up-and-coming electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft manufacturer. This facility will be used to produce their aircraft in an emerging market. Our portion of the project was aluminum composite panels around the top and sides of the production building, as well as an extruded aluminum “wavy wall” louver system to be attached outside the curtain wall of the main office entrance. The intent was to create the illusion of a wave, using straight tubes, projecting out at specific and various lengths.

Project Challenges & Solutions

There is a lot more thermal movement in curtain wall systems, so working that out to where the system moves but still looks as intended.

Our field crew spent a good bit of time and effort on initial field measurements and outrigger installation, as well as did a tremendous job working through issues that arose from a different type of job, and came through with a nice product.

Installation Process

  1. Wavy Wall – Once brackets are installed, we field-measured center lines for horizontal fabrication. Installation of tube outriggers of the same length throughout the curtain wall system. Once all outriggers were on, we field cut each outrigger to specified lengths based on drawings. Finally, horizontal tube installation at angles created by new outrigger lengths
  2. Aluminum Composite Panels—This is a Typical wet–seal ACM system, with panels running the length of the building, fascia, and soffit, creating a depth band above and on the sides. We added a little “Archer Aviation—Jog” on the sides to mimic what they do on their aircraft.

Performance Results

  • For an emerging market leader, the intent here was to bring attn to the entrance, in a non-conventional manner
